Industry upgrade (Project Nexus)

What is the industry upgrade?

This summer an industry-wide upgrade (also known as Project Nexus), is taking place in the energy industry, which affects all energy suppliers. The upgrade is driven by Ofgem to make it easier for people to switch their energy supplier and also to upgrade existing systems for the smart meter roll-out.

When is the upgrade taking place?

The upgrade is taking place between 10 May and 06 June, 2017. It’s a short period of time and will only affect people who switch to a different supplier over this period. The supply start date may be delayed by a few days.

Can I still join Bristol Energy?

Yes, you can still switch to Bristol Energy from your current supplier, either online, by telephone or in person at the Bristol Energy Hub. There will be a few days delay with your supply being switched from your existing supplier.

How long will it take to switch to Bristol Energy?

It normally takes three weeks to switch your supply, so it may take a few days longer over the upgrade period – up to 30 days. Once you’ve switched to us, we’ll confirm your supply start date in your Welcome Letter.

Will my energy supply be affected?

No, your energy supply will remain uninterrupted, so no need to worry. Your existing supplier will continue to supply your home until your switch to Bristol Energy has been completed.

How does this affect existing Bristol Energy customers?

This change does not affect our existing customers. The industry upgrade only affects the process of switching energy suppliers. Our customers will still be able to change tariff, payment method, or renew their tariff.

I’m an electricity only customer. Why does this affect me?

Bristol Energy has chosen to bring electricity supply start dates with gas supply start dates as the majority of our customers are dual fuel. It normally takes three weeks to switch your supply, so it may take a few days longer over the upgrade period – up to 30 days.
